In addition to the family law services we provide, we also provide estate planning, estate administration, will preparation, and other probate services.

Estate Planning and Probate Services

Will preparation

A will is a document that expresses your wishes regarding the distribution of your assets.  A will can also nominate who will care for your children after your death and who will be responsible for handling (probating) your estate.  A will is a common estate planning tool and should be utilized to ensure that your wishes are followed.

Power of Attorney Preparation

A power of attorney is a written declaration concerning who will make decisions on your behalf in the event you are unable to make decisions for yourself.  A medical power of attorney designates who will make your medical decisions and a durable power of attorney will designate who makes decisions regarding your property.  The authority granted in a power of attorney is effective only during your lifetime.

Probate or Estate Administration

Probate is the legal process for settling an estate.  An estate is created when a person dies.  The probate process ensures that the deceased person’s debts and taxes are paid from the estate and that property is transferred to the beneficiaries.  The probate process ends when the estate is closed.
